Meropenem + Tazobactam
Meropik TZ is a fixed-dose combination medication designed to treat infections caused by multidrug-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii strains. MODE OF ACTION:
Meropik TZ is a combination medication consisting of meropenem and tazobactam. This combination works synergistically to treat infections caused by Acinetobacter baumannii, particularly multidrug-resistant strains. Meropenem is a broad-spectrum carbapenem antibiotic. It binds to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis. Specifically, meropenem binds to PBP, blocking transpeptidation and preventing proper cell wall cross-linking. This leads to cell death. Tazobactam is a β-lactamase inhibitor that protects meropenem from degradation by β-lactamase enzymes produced by resistant bacteria. By inhibiting β-lactamases, tazobactam ensures that meropenem remains effective against β-lactamase-producing bacteria, including those resistant to other antibiotics.

Recommended Adult Dosage
500 mg to 1 g every 8 hours, depending on the requirement.
