Linezolid
Linopik /Linopik OD contains Linezolid as the active ingredient, available in 600 mg tablets and 1200 mg SR tablets. Linezolid is an antibiotic used to treat a variety of serious bacterial infections caused by gram-positive bacteria, including strains resistant to other antibiotics. It is particularly effective against Vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium (VRE), Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), and other staphylococcal infections, including both resistant and susceptible strains.
Its unique mechanism of action helps in the treatment of infections where other antibiotics may be ineffective, particularly those caused by multi-drug resistant bacteria.
COMPOSITION:
- Linezolid 600mg Tablet
- Linezolid 1200mg SR Tablet
MODE OF ACTION:
Linezolid is a synthetic antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by selectively binding to the 23S ribosomal RNA of the 50S subunit of the bacterial ribosome. This binding prevents the formation of the 70S initiation complex, which is essential for the initiation of protein synthesis in bacteria. Without this complex, bacteria cannot translate mRNA into proteins, effectively halting their growth. As a result, Linezolid is primarily bacteriostatic, inhibiting bacterial growth, but can also be bactericidal in certain situations, particularly when bacteria are actively dividing, such as in ventilator-associated pneumonia.
It is highly effective against gram-positive bacteria, including multi-drug resistant strains like VRE, which are resistant to many other antibiotics.
