Budesonide 9mg controlled-release tablets

MODE OF ACTION:

Budesonide in Besonide has an anti-inflammatory action that subsides the pain in the colon. Besonide is manufactured with Colomat Technology. The mechanism of drug release concerns the gastro-resistant coating, which avoids the release of the tablet until the tablet is exposed to a pH of seven or higher. After reaching this site, the activity of the tablet core, which consists of hydrophilic excipients, swells into a viscous gel mass, slowing the release of the drug. Lipophilic excipients slow the penetration of aqueous fluids into the tablet core, resulting in a homogenous and prolonged exposure of the whole colonic mucosa to the embedded substances.
