Auxitrol D3 (Cholecalciferol) is a dietary supplement used to treat Vitamin D deficiency in both healthy patients & CKD patients. Vitamin D is a fat-soluble prohormone steroid, obtained through the diet or via skin synthesis. Patients with CKD have an exceptionally high rate of severe vitamin D deficiency that is further exacerbated by the reduced ability to convert 25-(OH) vitamin D into the active form, 1,25 dihydroxy-vitamin D. Appropriate levels of vitamin D must be maintained in the body to maintain healthy metabolic functions and bone metabolism. Auxitrol D3 keeps calcium levels normal and allows normal bone growth.

MODE OF ACTION:
The principal biological function of Vitamin D is the maintenance of normal levels of serum calcium and phosphorus in the bloodstream by enhancing the efficacy of the small intestine to absorb these minerals from the diet. Vitamin D3 is hydroxylated in the liver to 25-hydroxyvitamin D and finally to the primary active metabolite 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D in the kidney via further hydroxylation. This final metabolite binds to endogenous Vitamin D receptors, which results in a variety of regulatory roles – including maintaining calcium balance, regulation of parathyroid hormone, the promotion of the renal reabsorption of calcium, increased intestinal absorption of calcium and phosphorus, and increased mobilization of calcium and phosphorus from bone to plasma to maintain balanced levels.
