Sodium Bicarbonate

AUXISODA is a sterile nonpyrogenic, hypertonic solution of sodiumbicarbonate in Water for Injection .

The solution contains no bacteriostat, antimicrobial agent or added buffer and is intended onlyfor use as a single dose injection.

Sodium bicarbonate in water dissociates to provide sodium (Na+) and bicarbonate (HCO3) ions.Sodium (Na+) is the principal cation of extracellular fluid and plays a large part in the therapy offluid and electrolyte disturbances.

Therapy Area: Critical Care Medicine
Form: Injection
Packaging: 1X100 ml bottle

COMPOSITION:

Sodium bicarbonate 8.4% w/v 100 ml IV

MODE OF ACTION:

Intravenous sodium bicarbonate therapy increases plasma bicarbonate.

It buffers excess hydrogenion concentration. Raises blood pH thus reverses the clinical manifestations of acidosis. Sodium bicarbonate in water dissociates to provide sodium (Na+) and bicarbonate (HCO3-) ions. Sodium (Na+) is the principal cation of extracellular fluid and plays a large part in the therapy of fluid and electrolyte disturbances. Plasma concentration is regulated by the kidney through acidification of the urine when there is a deficit or by alkalinization of the urine when there is an excess.

INDICATIONS

  • Metabolic acidosis
  • Diabetic ketoacidosis
  • Urinary alkalization
  • Asystole
  • Hyperkalemia
