Voglibose, Metformin
Voglibose is an alpha-glucosidase inhibitor used for lowering post-prandial blood glucose levels in people with diabetes mellitus.
Metformin is a biguanide drug used in conjunction with diet and exercise for glycemic control in type 2 diabetes mellitus and used off-label for insulin resistance in polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).
COMPOSITION:
Voglibose 0.2/0.3mg + Metformin 500mg SR Tablets
MODE OF ACTION:
Alpha-glucosidase inhibitors are saccharides that act as competitive inhibitors of enzymes needed to digest carbohydrates: specifically, alpha-glucosidase enzymes in the brush border of the small intestines. The membrane-bound intestinal alpha-glucosidases hydrolyze oligosaccharides, trisaccharides, and disaccharides to glucose and other monosaccharides in the small intestine. Inhibition of these enzyme systems reduces the rate of digestion of complex carbohydrates. Less glucose is absorbed because the carbohydrates are not broken down into glucose molecules and hence decrease in blood glucose level is seen. Metformin decreases blood glucose levels by decreasing hepatic glucose production (gluconeogenesis), decreasing the intestinal absorption of glucose, and increasing insulin sensitivity by increasing peripheral glucose uptake and utilization.
INDICATIONS
- To improve glycemic control in T2DM especially to reduce PPHG
