Cefpirome + Sulbactum

CEFITRYP-S is a combination of two antibiotic medications. Cefpirome is a fourth-generation cephalosporin with antibacterial action. It kills bacteria by preventing them from forming the bacterial protective covering (cell wall) which is needed for them to survive. Sulbactam is a beta-lactamase inhibitor. It works by blocking an enzyme called beta-lactamase produced by bacteria to inactivate antibiotics. This antibiotic does not harm anaerobic bacteria, hence spares the intestinal flora, unlike other antibiotics. Due to all these favorable properties, cefpirome is frequently used for empirical therapy in severely ill patients in intensive care, oncology and transplantation units.

Therapy Area: Antibiotic (Injectables)
Form: Parentral intravenous injection
Packaging: 1x1 vial

COMPOSITION:

Cefpirome 1gm + Sulbactum 500mg

MODE OF ACTION:

Sulbactam is an irreversible inhibitor of β-lactamase; by binding and inhibiting β-lactamase produced by bacterial cells, sulbactam is thereby able to prevent it from reducing antibiotic activity. Although sulbactam alone possesses little useful antibacterial activity, except against the Neisseriaceae, whole organism studies have shown that sulbactam restores ampicillin activity against beta-lactamase producing strains. In particular, sulbactam has good inhibitory activity against the clinically important plasmid mediated beta-lactamases most frequently responsible for transferred drug resistance. The presence of sulbactam in formulations with ampicillin effectively extends the antibacterial spectrum of ampicillin to include many bacteria normally resistant to it and to other beta-lactam antibacterials. Thus, products with ampicillin + sulbactam possess the properties of a broad-spectrum antibacterial and a beta-lactamase inhibitor.

Cefpirome exerts its bactericidal action by inhibiting the activity of transpeptidase enzyme which plays an important role in bacterial cell wall synthesis.
