Levocarnitine

Carnijet (Levocarnitine) corrects low carnitine levels and reverses symptoms of carnitine deficiency. Carnitine deficiency is a condition that prevents the body from using certain fats for energy and causes a variety of symptoms including severe brain dysfunction (encephalopathy), a weakened and enlarged heart (cardiomyopathy), muscle weakness, confusion, vomiting, and low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). Levocarnitine (Carnijet) is a naturally occurring substance that the cells of mammals need to produce energy. It is used to treat carnitine deficiency. Carnitine is a small protein that binds to and helps transport fatty acids into the mitochondria, the site of energy production within cells. In the mitochondria, carnitine binds to and removes toxins from the cells.

Therapy Area: Dialysis
Form: Injection
Packaging: 1X5ML Vial

COMPOSITION:

Levocarnitine 200 Mg/Ml Injection

MODE OF ACTION:

Levocarnitine is a carrier molecule in the transport of long chain fatty acids across the inner mitochondrial membrane. It exports acyl groups from subcellular organelles and from cells to urine before they accumulate to toxic concentrations. Only the L isomer of carnitine (sometimes called vitamin BT) affects lipid metabolism. Levocarnitine is handled by several proteins in different pathways including carnitine transporters, carnitine translocases, carnitine acetyltransferases and carnitine palmitoyl transferases.

INDICATIONS

  • Chronic fatigue syndrome
  • Muscle weakness
  • Cardiomyopathy

Dosage

10-20 mg/kg IV bolus infused over 2-3 minutes
